Bank of China was formally established in February 1912 following the approval of Dr. Sun Yat-sen and is the only Chinese bank with a legacy of over 100 years of banking knowledge and experience spanning a footprint of over 50 countries. It was listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and the Shanghai Stock Exchange in June and July 2006 respectively, becoming the first Chinese commercial bank to launch an A-Share and H-Share initial public offering and achieve a dual listing in both markets. Being as China’s most diversified and internationalized bank, Bank of China as the only one bank in the Emerging Market was again in 2017 designated as a Global Systemically Important Bank for 7 consecutive years.
Bank of China has strong association with Pakistan and it had its first branch in the city of Karachi in 1942. Due to the circumstance of 1971, Bank of China left and donated its assets valued at 201 million rupees to the Government of Pakistan. After 46 years, it is pleased that Bank of China are back.
As the branch of Bank of China, Bank of China Limited-Pakistan Operations has been granted the permission to commence operations on September 18, 2017 and honorably have had its Official Opening Ceremony at Aiwan-e-Sadr (President House), Islamabad on November 7, 2017. This branch was set up to be a key partner to undertake the ‘OBOR’ initiatives and effectively cater to the financing needs of CPEC projects by leveraging its specialized services and expertise.
